Celtic New Year 2008
In the 2008 event, more
than $6000 was raised through the generosity of local businesses to pay for
the performers. Over $5000 was raised from button sales and donated to local
organizations such as schools, churches and individuals for the promotion of
Celtic performance in music and dance by local youth.
|
The
goals of the organizing, nonprofit group, Friends of A Celtic New Year, are
to bring
the community together through music and other forms of creative
arts and to provide
support for the growth and development of young local
performers. Monies raised
through admission button sales are donated back to
our community to music
performance programs such as those at CHMS, the Richmond Open Mike
at the Library,
and the participating churches.
The
musical theme centers on Celtic music, but includes additional genres of
music from
local musicians in our community, including Rock, Folk and
Classical. With a variety of
entertainment offerings – from storytelling,
songs and dance - throughout the evening,
there is sure to be something for
everyone, young and old.
The
children and families programs will be offered from 3-6pm in two locations.
Concerts
and other musical and dance performances begin at 5pm and finish at 11pm
in seven
locations. All performance sites are within walking distance
of each other within the
village.
Admission for all events is $8 for a button in advance, $10
after Dec. 25,
children under 3
free. Buttons are available at local businesses in
Richmond and the surrounding area.
Parking
is available in many areas around town:
the Old Cheese Factory lot, Richmond Corner
Market, Holy Rosary Church, Harrington’s, Richmond Free Library, Richmond Home Supply,
the Town Center and at Volunteers Green.
Foodiis
available at: the Richmond Town Hall, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church,

Congregational Church, Bridge St. Cafe, On The Rise Bakery,
